THE HERO’S STORY JOURNEY

The primeval origin of the hero’s journey depicted in story is the day-to-day journey of the sun.

Act One: The sun at high noon is at its strongest: called Ra.
Tuning Point: The sun at sunset, now called Atum, crucified on the
horizon, suffers death.

Act Two: The sun as Osiris, Lord of the Underworld, travels through the underworld  overwhelming the forces of darkness to be reborn as Horus. Turning Point: Midway through this ordeal Osiris reaches the nadir of his struggle against the forces of darkness symbolized by a
firebreathing dragon (out of darkness comes light).
Turning Point: Osiris, through the help of Isis, is reborn as Horus advancing the character arc of the hero’s journey.

Act Three: Horus ascends to the apogee of his triumph at high noon.
where he gains ultimate political and sexual power as Ra.

This hero journey of the sun is symbolized in architecture in the form of basilica and obelisk. Basilica (bas + ilica / eliza + beth) means
‘house of light’ or lighthouse / lifehouse, referring symbolically to the uterus, ‘the chariot of the gods’. The basilica also represents the 180 degree arc of day from sunrise to sunset. The obelisk, the sun at high noon, is also sexually a snake or more properly an erect phallus (0+belis+k where ‘belis’ = phallus). In this view, the obelisk in front of or beside a basilica architecturally represents the sun (obelisk) at high noon (dome peak) manifesting ultimate hierarchical power, functioning both as a political statement of absolute dominance and hegemony and also as a sexual symbol mirroring the creative forces of the universe.
